| Sightseeing - Dalyan |
Dalyan is a town in Mugla Province located on the south-west coast of Turkey, between the well-known districts of Marmaris and Fethiye. Dalyan means "fishing weir" in Turkish. Bass, Mullet and Sea Bream swim upstream from the sea to Koycegiz Lake where another large town of the region, Koycegiz, is located. The fish spawn there, and when returning to the sea they are caught in the "dalyans". |

In addition to its attraction as a tourist destination, the region around Dalyan is a highly fertile and productive agricultural zone. Cotton is grown intensively as well as many varieties of fruits and vegetables which are all on display in the market on Saturdays, the day when villagers come from miles around to sell their products. |
The beach is well known for the Caretta Caretta (Loggerhead Sea Turtles) which have existed for 95 million years. International animal protection organisations monitor and protect the turtle's nesting grounds in Turkey. The beach is closed during the period of time that the Turtles lay their eggs. |
| The Kaunos Tombs |
 |
These tombs are the resting places of the kings of Caunos. They are carved in the style of Lycian rock tombs. There are two types of tombs to be found in Dalyan: Simple chambers, cut into the rock face like a room and more elaborate temple tombs. |
|
Many tombs were built with false walls placing valuables behind them so as to fool robbers. Obviously this was to no avail as all the tombs were emptied of their treasures. Rock tombs can be seen along the Lycian coast, but the best examples of them are in Dalyan. |
| Tears Of Byblis |
The King of the Kyra, Malletos, who is the son of Apollo, had twins. The boy was given the name 'Kaunos', and the name of the girl was 'Byblis'.The twins grew up together and they fell in love with each other. The secret love was revealed when they had a baby. The king was very raged and he banished his son from the country. After being thrown out, Kaunos, founded a city near the boundary of Lidya. The new city he founded was what is called 'Dalyan' today. What happened to Byblis? This is the sad part of the legend. The King abased Byblis and she couldn`t bear the pain of being separated from her lover. She cried and cried and eventually, she threw herself from a hill and died. According to the legend, Dalyan canals that remind of labyrinths was formed by the tears of Byblis. |
| Mud Baths & Springs |
If you enjoy splashing around in the mud or wish to become more beautiful during your trip to Dalyan then you have to visit the Mud Baths. The mud is said to have anti-ageing properties that remove your wrinkles. Firstly you cover your body in the mud and then bask in the sun while the mud dries. As the mud dries it shrinks your skin removing your wrinkles with it. While it has not been scientifically proven to have this effect, those that have tried it all believe themselves to have younger skin as a result. Overall, many families enjoy the time wallowing in the mud on a hot day. |
Following your mud bath you can take a bath in the thermal spring which is known to have healing power for the skin, respiratory system and rheumatism. The waters at the Sultaniye Spring have in fact the second highest mineral content in the world. |
The mud baths and hot springs can be reached by boat. They are usually the first stop on the daily boat tours of Dalyan. |
