About Yenihisar - Didim

Yenihisar which means new castle, is the "old town" commercial quarter of Didim. It is located halfway between Altinkum and Apollo Temple. This is where you will find the weekly market which takes place on Saturdays. It is also Didim's main shopping area where you can find all sorts of shops selling everything from food to furniture.

Here you can also find repair shops and businesses that offer services.

Yenihisar also has a wonderful choice of traditional Turkish restaurants (restaurant means lokanta in Turkish) and cafes to either take a break from shopping or to just have a good meal with the locals.

This is also an area where many governmental buildings like the Electricity Office ( AYDEM / EDAS ), Didim's Municipality (Belediye) and other important buildings and offices are found.

General Information About Didim

Didim is shaped as a peninsula surrounding Mugla on the east coast with a huge inlet of Akbuk town, Aegean Sea on the west and east coast, Bafa Lake and the Menderes River on the northern coast. Didim is 106 kilometres to the province of Aydin, 53 kilometres to the Söke Town, 73 kilometres to Kusadasi and 110 kilometres to Bodrum.

The original name of Didim was "Didyma" meaning Twins, which was an important sanctuary that housed one of the oracles of Apollo. It was connected to Miletus by sea, and those arriving by ship would land at the harbour of Panormus and then follow the "Sacred Way" to Didyma.

Didim is a holiday resort that is rapidly growing year by year. It welcomes large populations of tourists every year with its beautiful beaches, ancient towns, culture and best of all, its wonderful climate which, is known to be helpful for those with asthma and similar health problems.

Compared to many other beautiful resorts in Turkey, Didim is not as developed but, is on the way of becoming one of Turkey's major tourist resorts. A lot of infrastructural work has been done and some are still underway.

One of the major developments taking place in Didim is the new marina which was completed May of 2009. The new marina will of course help in the progress and development of Didim.

There are also other projects like a Golf Course and a couple of 5 Star Hotels. Furthermore, many well known companies have also opened branches in Didim and it is definite that many more will start to open a branch in Didim also.
